Water Fact Exhibition

An Engaging Exhibition to Raise Awareness about Water Usage

The Water Fact Exhibition, designed by Yifei Wu, aims to educate the public about the importance of water conservation and the global water crisis. Through a combination of animation, graphic design, and product design, this exhibition provides an easily accessible way for the public to change their mindset and usage of water.

The inspiration for the Water Fact Exhibition came from the designer's realization that saving water is not solely dependent on the ease or difficulty of doing so, but rather on people's mindset. With this in mind, Yifei Wu created an animation that attracts passersby and arouses their curiosity and interest. This animation leads them into the pop-up exhibition, where they can learn about the facts and figures related to water usage.

What sets the Water Fact Exhibition apart is its ability to engage the public and make them aware of the water crisis. The exhibition showcases the amount of water wasted during the manufacturing process and highlights the connection between water and daily life. Through a selection of proposed products and visions, the exhibition presents a satirical look at the future, emphasizing the potential effects of water scarcity.

The Water Fact Exhibition utilizes various design techniques and technologies to bring the concept to life. The animation was hand-drawn using Procreate and edited into a video using iMovie. The typeface was created using Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Photoshop. Additionally, the exhibition features posters designed using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, as well as screen-printed T-shirts designed on InDesign. The product design aspect of the exhibition was realized using Rhino and Keyshot.

The Water Fact Exhibition addresses important keywords such as water crisis, water fact, public education, exhibition, animation, graphic design, and product design. It was a collaborative effort, with Yifei Wu working alongside team members Ruth Pickering, Claudia Annie Lee, Sam O'Neill, and Max Remindiere.

The exhibition took place over a month, from November to December 2018, in London. Throughout the project, the team conducted interviews, created prototypes, conducted experiments, and held workshops to ensure the effectiveness of the design.

One of the challenges faced during the design process was gathering feedback from the public. However, the team overcame this challenge by organizing a real-time pop-up exhibition at London Waterloo Market. The feedback received helped them further develop the project, highlighting its strengths and areas for improvement.

The Water Fact Exhibition has received recognition for its innovative and practical design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Public Awareness, Volunteerism, and Society Design category in 2019. This award is given to designs that meet professional and industrial requirements while also contributing to a better world.
